WOODLAWN, IL (KFVS) - Illinois State Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened on Interstate 64.
It happened shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday on I-64 eastbound at mile marker 71.5 in Jefferson County.
Police say 36-year-old Adam Lee Smith from Chattanooga, Tenn. was killed.
According to crash investigators, a Peterbilt pulling a box trailer slowed for traffic backed up in a construction zone on I-57/64 at mile marker 96.
Smith was in a Ford Windstar and didn't slow down and hit the right rear corner of the trailer, according to ISP.
Matthew David Fitzgerald, 33, was a passenger in the van from Chattanooga was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to a Mt. Vernon hospital.
The driver and passenger, Roger Joseph Laughlin, 51, and Corey Joseph Laughlin, 15, from Wright City in the Peterbilt were uninjured.
An investigation continues.
