THEBES, IL (KFVS) -

For some people living along Second Street and Third Street in Thebes, the rising waters are already knocking on their front doors.

This river community isn't immune to flooding and this time, the river isn't expected to crest anywhere near record levels, but it's going to get high enough to cause some problems for people in Thebes.

"I just cut the sump pump and take the hot water heater out and we're ready," Jerry Jacobs said. "We hope it don't get that high, but you never know about the Mississippi and anybody that's had a Mississippi River boat ride can tell you that."

Jacobs said the flood waters have never gotten into his mother's home. He said the closest they ever came was in 2011 when the river made it to the top step.
