A man charged with sexual assault turned himself in to Carbondale police. Shamar S. Scales, 21, was charged with criminal sexual assault in two different investigations.

A Marion man was arrested after trying to get away on a bicycle after robbing a bank in December. James Terrell "JT" Bateman was sentenced to 12 years behind bars, according to Williamson County Assistant State's Attorney Jimmy Dean.

In national news, charges were dropped against a man suspected of sending letters containing a toxin to politicians, including President Barack Obama. Paul Kevin Curtis was released from custody on bond earlier today. It is possible for the prosecutors to reinstate charges should they decide to do so.
