Heartland sheriff's departments inform public with smartphone apps

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Several local sheriff's departments are part of an app available for smartphones aimed at doing a better job at keep residents informed about several topics.

The free app is available in your phone's store, iTunes and the Google Play Store, just search "Mobile Patrol."

The sheriffs we talked to love it because it gives them the ability to literally put information directly into the publics' hands.

Basically, it's one app called Mobile Patrol and local departments decided to participate. Once you download the app, you just set your state and look for your county.

Some of the information provided includes jail bookings, a victims notification, most wanted, warrants and emergency alerts.

Sheriff Rick Walter said it helps keep the community connected.
