New study details effects of alcohol on child development

(CBS) - Light drinking during pregnancy does not seem to have bad effects on a child's development, according to a new study out of London.

Researchers compared 7-year olds born to mothers who did not drink alcohol during pregnancy, to kids whose mothers drank a small glass of wine or half a beer each week.

They found no difference in the behavioral and cognitive scores of the two groups.

However, researchers warn differences could still emerge later in childhood.
