Special Olympics games come to Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Hundreds of athletes came out Saturday to take part in the Special Olympics spring games In Cape Girardeau.

The games centered on different variations of track and field competitions.

"It's gold! I got it in Special Olympics for running," said athlete Jabryson Rand.

It's a day that coaches and athletes have been looking forward to for awhile.

"I love it," said Coach Regina Jennings.  "I've been doing it for over 30 years, and every year I get excited to see my students, and all the students, compete and win and feel good. It's great for self esteem."

The event consisted of many veteran athletes along with some first-timers, but the most important thing as always having fun.
