Cave-in-Rock Ferry open after closing due to wind

CAVE-IN-ROCK, IL (KFVS) -

The Cave-In-Rock ferry is back open after closing due to high winds along the Ohio River.

It re opened around 5:30 p.m. CT

The Cave in Rock ferry temporarily halted operations as of about 11:30 Friday morning.

The ferry connects KY 91 with IL Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County, Kentucky, and Hardin County, Illinois.

The ferry normally operates from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. central time, seven days a week. The ferry carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River in an average day, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The Cave-In-Rock Ferry is at Ohio River navigation mile point 881.0.

The Cave-In-Rock Ferry is operated by an independent contractor with joint funding from KYTC and Idot through a ferry authority.

Also, transportation officials say the Dorena-Hickman Ferry has halted operations due to high winds.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry shut down upon reaching the Kentucky shore about 3 p.m., CDT, and will remain closed for the rest of the day. It is expected to re open on Saturday.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connects KY 1354 at Hickman, Kentucky, with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Missouri.
