Authorities release name of man killed on I-57

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Authorities have released the identity of the man killed on Interstate 57 early Friday morning.

Illinois State Police the man killed was 57-year-old William Mundy of Warren, Michigan.

Emergency crews found the man's body in the middle of Interstate 57 in Union County.

According to the Union County Sheriff's Office, the body was found between the 37 and 38 mile markers.

The southbound lanes of the interstate are back open. They were down to one lane while crews investigated at the scene.

Illinois State Police took over the investigation.

ISP says shortly after 3 a.m. they responded to the scene after a 911 call.

According to ISP, someone in a car hit the person found dead.  Police believe it was an accident.  The driver says the victim just came out of nowhere.

The driver tells police a second car hit the victim, as well. Police are investigating that claim.

Police also say the victim was carrying no identification.
