Distracted driving causes collision in McCracken County

One person was injured during a collision in McCracken County on Sunday.

Deputies were called to the scene in the 2200 block of Lebanon Church Road south of Mayfield Road just after 7:30 p.m.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, 17-year-old Hunter Rommelman of Paducah was driving north on Lebanon Church Road when he took his eyes off the road to look at his cell phone.

Rommelman reportedly looked up from his phone just before crossing the center line and hitting a truck driven by Kelley Parker of Paducah.

The truck Parker was driving belonged to Falconite Construction and was being used to pull a small enclosed trailer.

The collision caused damage to Rommelman's car as well as the truck and trailer.

Rommelman refused treatment and was taken home by his parents.

Parker was taken to Lourdes hospital for treatment.

The road was shut down for just over 2 hours for cleanup and investigation.

Parker was cited to court for operating on a suspended operator's license.

The use of a cell phone by Rommelman was listed as a contributing factor in the report, as was not being under proper control of his vehicle.
