MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - A high-speed chase leads to the arrest of a man wanted for attempted murder.

It all started around 6 p.m. Friday night when Murphysboro police tried to make a traffic stop on the 1500 block of Walnut Street. The driver allegedly did not stop. That began a short police pursuit that ended when the fleeing car lost a wheel and the vehicle was forced to stop near the intersection of 20th Street and Shomaker Drive.

Police say three men exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers continued to chase the suspects. A short time later officers caught up to the men and took them into custody.

Nigelle Bird, 20, of Cape Girardeau and Daivon Harris, 21, of Murphysboro now face charges including resisting arrest.

Police learned the driver of the car, 21-year-old Jyshawn Jackson of Alsip, Illinois had an active warrant out for his arrest from Champaign County. The warrant was aggravated battery, discharge of a firearm and attempted first degree murder charges. Jackson also faces new charges related to the police chase.

Jackson remains in the Jackson County Jail.
