1 injured, 1 facing multiple charges after Energy hit and run

ENERGY, IL (KFVS) - One person was injured and one person is facing several charges after a hit and run on Monday evening in Energy, Ill.

According to the Energy Police Department, police responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at the Casey's General Store in Energy.

Once on the scene, officers found 43-year-old Sherri Branch of Herrin pinned beneath a vehicle.

The Energy Fire Department and the Herrin Fire Department pulled Branch out and she was taken to Herrin Hospital by ambulance and later flown to a St. Louis hospital.

The suspect, 41-year-old Tracy Hardcastle of Herrin, fled the scene on foot but was caught by officers a short time later in a home in Herrin.

Hardcastle tried to resist arrest, but was taken to the Williamson Count Jail and was charged with the following:

  • driving while license revoked
  • driving under the influence
  • leaving the scene of a personal injury accident
  • resisting/obstructing a peace officer

The Energy Police Department reports that Hardcastle was also wanted on outstanding warrants in Saline and Jackson counties for larceny and credit card fraud.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office and Herrin Police Department assisted at the scene.
