Southeast softball swept in three-game series to SIUE

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State softball lost 9-1 to SIU Edwardsville on Saturday at the Southeast Softball Complex.

The Redhawks were swept in the three-game series.

Southeast's lone run came in the bottom of the second inning when Taylor Cowan, Xia Wilson and Simone Patterson each had singles, loading up the bases. A hit by Brittany Smith and a dropped pop fly by SIUE center fielder added the Redhawks only run on the scoreboard.

Southeast had seven hits to the Cougars nine.

Starting pitcher Taylor Cowan (6-11) recorded another loss, giving up eight runs in 5.2 innings.

SIUE's Haley Chambers (12-2) earned the victory, giving up one unearned run while striking out seven Redhawk batters.

SIUE outhit Southeast 9-7 in the game.

Southeast fell to an overall record of 10-18 and 3-5 in OVC play. SIUE improved to 22-8 and 7-3.

Southeast will play Evansville at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Southeast Softball Complex.
