POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Thanks to a special family, students at Oak Grove Elementary School in Poplar Bluff have a new playground.
There was also a balloon release held this morning in memory of Allison Daughhetee.
Allison was killed in a car crash in June 2011, just after finishing 2nd grade.
Her family wanted to honor her memory, so they made a donation to the school.
The PTO held fundraisers to help finish paying for the project.
The school's principal says it's a great way to remember a very special student.
"We were all thinking of Ally as we're seeing everyone moving around and playing," said Principal Jennifer Richardson. "And knowing what a bright spot she was in everybody's heart. The kids I know remember here, they're going to continue to remember her, and they continue to talk about her to this day. We did release some balloons in her memory and we know she's smiling down on us on the fact that we have this available to our students in Oak Grove."
The new pieces in the playground were chosen with Ally in mind.
Her family says she was a very active little girl and they know she would love the new equipment.
Each class got to spend about an hour on the playground on Thursday.
