GALLATIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A western Kentucky woman was killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Gallatin County, Illinois.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash happened shortly after 1:20 p.m. on Illinois Route 1, just north of the Gallatin-Hardin County line.
District 19 crash investigators say Shelly M. Curnell, 39, of Salem, Ky., was killed in the crash. According to the coroner's office, Curnell was also known as Shelly M. Welsh.
Troopers say Curnell was driving north on Route 1 and lost control of her Pontiac Bonneville. She then overcorrected her steering before the car left the road and hit a tree on the driver's side.
Curnell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner's Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
