(KFVS) - Actress Ashley Judd has announced she is not running for U.S. Senate in Kentucky.
Judd tweeted, "Regretfully, I am currently unable to consider a campaign for the Senate. I have spoken to so many Kentuckians over these last few months ~"
The Kentucky native had contacted several people, including Gov. Steve Beshear, to discuss her options.
House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Speaker Pro Tem Larry Clark said they also have gotten calls from Judd.
Judd lives in Tennessee and would have had to re-establish a residence in Kentucky to take on Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in his 2014 re-election bid.
McConnell, a political powerhouse, already has raised $10 million for his re-election.
McConnell, the longest serving U.S. senator in Kentucky history, spent some $20 million on his last election.
