CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Winter weather is causing road conditions to worsen throughout the Heartland Sunday.
The bad weather conditions are believed to be to blame for a rollover wreck on Interstate 55 on Sunday.
According to Jason McBride with the Missouri Highway Patrol, just before 10 a.m. a car with 5 passengers lost control near the 114 mile marker.
The car then ran off the road and overturned in a creek.
All passengers were belted in.
At least one passenger, a small child in a booster seat, had to be rescued from the overturned vehicle.
Trooper McBride says he believes the bad weather is to blame as there was sleet on the road at the time of the wreck.
Two of the passengers were taken to St. Francis hospital in Cape Girardeau.
There are several reports of cars off the road along I-55 northbound.
Drivers should use caution and be aware of developing road and weather conditions.
