Cape Man finds "chemical bombs' in driveway and front yard

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Police and fire crews were kept busy Friday night when apparent homemade chemical bombs were discovered in a Cape Girardeau neighborhood.

Cape Girardeau police say around 11 p.m. Friday crews were called out to a home on La Mesa Drive after a man found apparent chemical bombs in his drive way and around his yard.

Investigators say the devices were plastic bottles that contained a mixture of household chemicals. The bombs did not explode and no one was hurt.

Police say this was likely just a kids' prank, but the home owner is not laughing.

"If it can happen to me, it can happen to anybody," said homeowner Fran McGarr. "Even if it's just a prank these kids have to know... when you start dealing with chemicals it's a serious issue."

The chemical-containing devices were taken off site and disposed of by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department Haz-Mat Team.

Police are now looking for the apparent pranksters behind the incident who could face charges if caught.
