MARION, IL (KFVS) - A plan to bring thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars into southern Illinois is still at a standstill.
The Star Bond initiative has made little progress in the last year and a half.
Since the approval of the star bond initiative in October of 2011, little to no progress has been made on this multi-million dollar investment, which includes a major retail district, a hotel and water park.
According to Marion mayor Bob Butler, the 400 acres along Interstate 57 is in the hands of the Holland Construction company located out of Swansea, Illinois.
But come this May, if there is still no progress, the city will then choose another company to develop the project.
It's a decision Mayor Butler thought would never have to be considered.
"I would hope that he would do something, I'm a little disappointed that he hasn't done more than he has so far," said Marion Mayor, Bob Butler. "But if he doesn't within a couple of months get this show on the road, he will be out of the picture and we will bring in someone else."
The Holland Construction company could not be reached for comment.
