ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta police have ended their search for a homeless man who is accused of attacking a waiter and biting off a chunk of his lip.
Investigators have charged Carl Winston, better known as "Cyrus," with aggravated battery disfigurement for the crime. Winston was booked into the Fulton County Jail Saturday. Police said he turned himself in after seeing himself on television.
The attack happened last Friday outside the Flying Biscuit, a popular Midtown eatery, when a waiter named Rodney Scott stepped outside for a smoke break.
That's when police said Cyrus attacked Scott. Security camera video showed Cyrus on top of Scott, striking him several times in the face before being pulled off by patrons.
Following the attack, witnesses said Cyrus was seen running off towards Midtown.
Investigators said that a confrontation between the two earlier in the evening likely caused the attack. Scott had asked Cyrus to leave the restaurant because he was soliciting guests for food and money.
On Friday, Scott told CBS Atlanta News he has not been able to work since the attack and is concerned about paying his household and medical bills.
CBS Atlanta News also contacted Flying Biscuit, and a representative for the restaurant responded to the incident in a statement:
"We are, however, helping the employee by providing funding for all of his medical bills. We remain diligent about our commitment to the safety of our employees and customers and continue to work closely with the local authorities throughout this investigation."
