Trigg County Civil War Days returns

CADIZ, KY (KFVS) - Trigg County Civil War Days returns to Trigg County after a year hiatus.

To be held March 22 – 24, 2013 at Lake Barkley State Resort Park, the event will provide an educational glimpse into life during the Civil War.

The 2013 event will feature two battles; night firing of the cannons, a shooting competition, cavalry competition, and the Blue and Grey Ball open to public participation.

Period costumes are encouraged, but not required to enjoy a complete Civil war experience.

Also returning to the event is the Ladies Tea. All are invited to join the Tom Johnson United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter and enjoy a Pageant of period attire.

Participants will be judged on the authenticity of their attire culminating in the crowning of Miss Mary Trigg.

Trigg County Civil War Days Sutlers Row, will provide an opportunity to purchase goods specific to the Civil War era.

Community organizations, artisans and food vendors will also be on hand to round out the day with food, fun and activities for the entire family.

"With the expansion of the event grounds to Lake Barkley State Resort Park, Trigg County Civil War Days has the opportunity to open the event to larger groups that the previous location could not support. The event will grow into a premier event for Trigg County while providing participants the opportunity to experience an important part of American history." explains Gary Polete, Organizer of Trigg County Civil War Days. "We are receiving positive feedback from re-enactors and are expecting around 300 re-enactors with many groups continuing to contact us about being involved."
