CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Southeast Missouri head coach Dickey Nutt agreed to a contract extension through the 2014-15 season, Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt announced Thursday.

Nutt led Southeast to its first winning season since 2004-05 when the Redhawks finished at 17-16 overall and 8-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference this year. The 17 wins are Southeast's most in a season since the Redhawks went 18-12 in 2000-01.

"I'm pleased with the progress that our basketball team made during the 2012-13 season," said Alnutt. "One can take a look at our winning record and see that this program is moving in the right direction. Furthermore, I believe that Coach Nutt continues to recruit high character individuals who understand what it takes to be successful student-athletes here at Southeast. I look forward to seeing continued growth with our program and one that is in position to compete for OVC Championships in the future."

Southeast ended its 2012-13 campaign by winning six of its last nine games and entered last week's OVC Tournament as one of the hottest teams. The Redhawks, who finished second in the West Division behind Murray State, advanced to the quarterfinals of the league's postseason event for the third consecutive year.

"I am very grateful and thankful to Mr. Alnutt and Dr. Dobbins for having the confidence in me to lead this basketball program," said Nutt. "We are excited about what we are building here at Southeast Missouri State."

Nutt was hired as Southeast's head coach on Mar. 12, 2009.
