Man jailed for allegedly assaulting woman and 9 year old

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Paducah man is in jail on drug and assault charges after deputies say he assaulted his girlfriend and his 9-year-old son.

McCracken County deputies say just after midnight Saturday morning 39-year-old Clifford Reed was intoxicated and struck his girlfriend in the face at a home on New Hope Church Road.

The girlfriend told police she escaped to a neighbor's home. In her absence, Reed allegedly assaulted his own son. Deputies say Reed picked up the 9-year-old, threw him on the ground and kicked him in the back.

Both victims were checked out by paramedics, but neither was hospitalized.

Police say the child suffered minor injuries in the apparent attack. The boy was taken into protective custody by McCracken County Social Services and placed in a temporary location.

Upon his arrest, deputies searched Reed and say they found three Oxycontin pills in his possession.

Reed now faces charges of 4th degree domestic assault, public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. He is currently being held in the McCracken County Jail.
