MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - A Murphysboro woman found a little girl wandering in cold temperatures, she says for the second day in a row.
Both times, she said, the little girl was not dressed appropriately for the cold.
Chelsea Pritchett said on Monday, a neighbor brought the toddler to her home asking if she knew where the child belonged. She said the little girl was barefoot and only had on a nightgown.
Pritchett said she was surprised by the state the child was in.
"He said he found her through here wandering by herself," Pritchett said. "She only had on little pajamas, paper thin, no shoes, no socks, freezing. That's when I noticed her pants were soaking wet and obviously she had feces all over her."
She said she called the sheriff's department and a deputy went door-to-door looking for the child's parents.
According to the police report, the three-year-old's mother said the child snuck out after she fell asleep on the couch.
The police report also states that on Tuesday, another family in the neighborhood said they found the girl wandering around with just a diaper on, but this time police say they just took her home.
The mother reached out to us and admits that on Monday the girl snuck out, but she said the incident on Tuesday never happened.
Deputies tell Heartland News that the Division of Family Services was called and DFS confirms they are investigating the accusations.
