CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Unwanted callers is the number one complaint from Missourians to the state's Attorney General's office.

They said they got almost 40,000 complaints in 2012, and on average, more than 200 a day.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said the No-Call list, can provide protection against unwanted calls from in-state and national businesses.

But new technology allows people and computers in other countries to call those in the Heartland. They do so anonymously from all over the world, making it difficult for the No-Call list to stop them.

Koster said the callers are able to use fake caller ID information, and can randomly dial millions of numbers.

They said don't press any buttons, which will only confirm it's a working number, so they might try to call again.

Koster said complaints of telemarketers calling cell phones have also increased.

You can now register your cell phone on Missouri's No-Call list.

Koster's office got more than $1.4 million dollars in court judgements against telemarketers in 2012.

If you get one of the telemarketer or robo-calls, Koster's office reminds people to report it to them.
