SALINE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The controversy over who is going to cover fires in rural Saline County has been resolved.
Back in December of last year, the Harrisburg City Fire Department announced they would no longer be covering fires out in the county.
The fire department cited payment problems for the decision, so the Saline County Board met with the volunteer fire departments in the different towns throughout the county and they now have a plan in place to cover fires.
"They figured out what they could cover, what they could cover mutually with aid from one of the other fire departments," said Roger Craig, chairman of the Saline County Board Fire Committee. "And we were able come up with a plan to, when we have a fire they'll be toned out and have our county covered."
The new fire protection plan for Saline County goes into effect on July 1, 2013.
There will be a $2,000 fee for a fire response in the county.
