Ball State beats Southeast 85-82 with last second shot

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State honored senior guards Corey Wilford, Marland Smith and Nick Niemczyk prior to tipoff Saturday at the Show Me Center.

But Ball State guard Jauwan Scaife spoiled their night, making the game-winning 3-pointer with
one second left to defeat the Redhawks 85-82.

The game was a part of the ESPN Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters.

Southeast guard Marland Smith made five-out-of-seven 3-point attempts,
ending with 21 points on the night.

Southeast forward Nino Johnson scored a double-double with 16 points and 14
rebounds. Johnson's three blocks broke the school's single-season record
in blocked shots.

Southeast forced 15 turnovers and held the Cardinals to 40.9 percent from
the field at the end of the night. Ball State out-rebounded the Redhawks 46-36.

The Redhawks fell to 14-15 while the Cardinals improved to 11-14.

Southeast will play Austin Peay at 7 p.m. Thursday in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Redhawks will finish up their last regular season Ohio Valley Conference matchup against
Murray State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Murray, Ky.
