WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A driver blackout may have been the cause of a crash on Interstate 57 Friday night.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash happened at 9 p.m. on the exit ramp from Interstate 24 East to I-57 south.
Troopers say Dale Edward Huffman, 75, of Milton, Florida was behind the wheel of a commercial motor vehicle when he allegedly blacked out and drove off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its left side blocking both lanes of traffic.
Huffman had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to a Marion hospital for treatment.
Huffman has been ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and for violating the "14-hour rule" which states simply states a commercial truck driver cannot work more than 14 hours in a 24 hour period.
