MoDOT worker hit while removing downed tree

(KFVS) -

A MoDOT worker was injured on Thursday after being hit while removing a downed tree.

According to the Mo. Highway Patrol, the crash happened when a vehicle driven by Nathaniel Bailey, 19, of Arcadia, Mo. tried to pass a MoDOT dump truck that was parked on the side of MO Hwy 72, east of Millersville.

The dump truck was parked while MoDOT worker Michael Schwendemann, 35, of Cape Girardeau was removing a downed tree from the roadway.

Bailey struck Schwendemann and another MoDOT vehicle.

Bailey and Schwendemann were both taken to St. Francis Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Both MoDOT vehicles involved in the crash were displaying yellow hazard lights.
