Parts of I-64 shut down overnight after hazardous material spill

WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - East bound lanes on Interstate 64 were shut down in Washington County, Ill. on Tuesday night due to a semi-truck tank leaking hazardous material.

The call came in around 9:30 p.m. and the Ill. State Police, Irvington Police and the Washington County Fire Department Hazmat Team responded to the scene.

A home nearby the incident was evacuated and other homes in the area were notified of a potential danger.

There was only a small amount of hazmat material leaked.

The product was loaded into another tanker and the scene was cleaned up.

Traffic flow began again around 5:15 a.m.

There were no injuries reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
