The Missouri Department of Conservation is searching for whoever may have shot a bald eagle in Wayne County.
A landowner with property on County Road 417 about 1/4 mile south of Hwy. 49 near Williamsville reported an injured immature bald eagle on his property on Jan. 30.
The eagle was taken to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for treatment, but it died that night.
The bird had been shot.
Bald eagles are protected by both state and federal laws.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Missouri Department of Conservation's Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-800-392-1111 or the local Conservation Agent. Callers can remain anonymous and rewards are available.
