Kansas City, Mo. students required to give hair for drug tests

KANSAS CITY, MO (KFVS) - Rockhurst High School, a private Catholic school in Kansas City, Mo. will soon be requiring its students to supply hair strands for mandatory drug testing.

According to KMOX, the school will collect several strands of hair from each student in order to test for a variety of drugs including marijuana and cocaine.

The school says a recent survey showed the students think most kids do drugs.

The school is concerned that mindset could lead to peer pressure and more kids getting involved with illegal substances.

Parents of the students seem to support the drug tests, while a representative with the ACLU of Kansas and Western Missouri says it would be a waste of time and money.

The fourth amendment restricts public schools from testing all students, but private schools are free to run such tests.
