GRAND TOWER, IL (KFVS) -

Starting Tuesday night, the Army Corps of Engineers will begin removing rock along another portion of the Mississippi near Grand Tower.

Corps spokesman Mike Petersen says the 10-day project will continue the goal of deepening the channels, adding an additional 9 feet in depth.

The operations 30 miles south along Thebes hit a standstill when contractors discovered rock formations beneath the river sediment.

Regardless, with the help of recent rain the Corps expects to maintain navigation through the end of February.
