AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron detectives have charged Terrance Allen, 48, of McKinley Avenue in Akron with Involuntary Manslaughter, Felony Child Endangering, Weapons under Disability and Tampering with Evidence in the death of his four year old son, Jamarcus Allen.

The shooting happened just before 10 a.m. Wednesday in a car at S. Arlington Street and Davies Avenue.

Police say the boy, identified as Jamarcus Allen, was driving in a car with his father.

"The vehicle did have a bullet hole in the ceiling but we're trying to determine if that happened here or somewhere else," said Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards.

The father then flagged down a Sheriff's Deputy, who immediately had his dispatch call Akron Police. EMS rushed Allen to Children's Hospital, where he died.

"One guy got out of the car and laid down on the floor and he was saying my baby got shot," said witness John Geith.

The vehicle is now being processed at the Akron Police garage.

A handgun was recovered in the car.

Terrance Allen will be booked into the Summit County Jail.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy Thursday.
