MINER, MO (KFVS) -
Two Miner police officers assisted in delivering a baby on Saturday.
According to Police Chief Chris Griggs, Sgt. Skinner and Officer Rodgers were notified about a woman in labor in the parking lot of the Miner Police Department around 1 p.m.
New parents Joe Turcotte and Taylor Northern hadn't expected such excitement when the day started.
Joe Turcotte was in Cape Girardeau and Taylor Northern was in the Miner area at her sister's house. She called Joe and told him she was in labor. As soon as Joe arrived, Taylor's water broke and the family headed towards the hospital in Sikeston.
However, the baby was starting to crown. Joe pulled into the Miner Police Station while holding the baby's head.
Joe's daughter and her friend went inside for help. Sgt. Darrin Skinner and Officer Rodgers came out to assist Joe with the delivery of the baby.
They delivered a baby girl named Jersey Rose. She came into the world at seven pounds 11 ounces and 19.5 inches tall.
Sgt. Skinner says it was an incredible feeling when Jersey took her first breath.
Taylor was born early and was due on January 25, so her parents say it came as a surprise.
The baby is now in Missouri Delta in Sikeston facing some minor problems, but does have a feeding tube helping her get nourishment. Otherwise, her parents say Jersey is doing great.
Taylor is already talking about having another baby-this time preferably a boy.
