1/18/13 - Dr. King's Dream

Watch for ViewPoint segments on KFVS12 normally scheduled to air Mondays near the end of Heartland News at 6:00 & 10:00, and Tuesdays at 6:28 a.m. and near the end of Heartland News At Noon.

On Monday, the nation will pause to celebrate the contributions and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now whether you choose to acknowledge or to ignore the impact Dr. King had on our nation, I challenge you to dispute the merits of what must have been his strongest argument...that we judge people not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Almost 50 years have passed since King delivered his "Dream" to the rest of the nation. As a people we have come very far since then. My question to you is have we come far enough?

The challenge to judge someone solely on their character is hard. It requires a little work and it requires individual responsibility; the responsibility to abandon stereotypes and recognize the difficult struggle this country has gone through to get to where it is today. It also requires the commitment to completely disregard those whose sole lot in life is to tear the rest of us apart.

Our nation and our way of life continue to be attacked, both literally and physically, from inside our borders to all corners of the globe. Despite this I know most of you feel like I do...we still live in the greatest country in the world and the promise of fulfilling King's dream lives on.
