JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KFVS) -
The Jackson and Poplar Bluff high school marching bands will be performing as part of the Mo. Inaugural Parade in Jefferson City.
The parade, which will take place on Monday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. and will feature eight different school bands, will end at the State Capitol for the swearing-in of five statewide elected officials.
"It's pretty cool, and a great honor to be asked," said Stephen Winters, director of the Poplar Bluff High School Sho-Me Marching Band. "I don't remember this band ever getting to do this before, so our kids are really excited."
About 100 Poplar Bluff High School students in the Sho-Me Marching Band performed. Although the temperature was 12 degrees, causing valves and slides on instruments to seize up, a school spokesperson says marching past the Capitol made it all worthwhile for the Sho-Me Band, which was one of only eight participating bands in Missouri.
The Jackson High School band is under the direction of Thomas Broussard Jr.
"I'm proud to have these great bands agree to perform for the 2013 Inaugural Parade," Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder said. "People in Southeast Missouri know well the fine reputation of both bands, and I look forward to seeing them in Jefferson City."
