SOMERVILLE, TN -
(WMC-TV) – We have new details about a private plane that landed on I-40 overnight. The landing happened in Fayette County - just east of Stanton Road.
The pilot and his brother, Nathanael Prather, were about eight miles from Fayette County airport when the plane's engine started sputtering.
The pilot spoke with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about trying to glide to the airport, but the plane did not have enough altitude to do so.
Nathanael said his brother had to land the plane on the interstate in between cars.
"It was kind of crazy," Prather said. "At one point we were coming up on a semi, and we had to pull up over him and land in front of him between him and another car."
Prather said he was worried about the people on the ground.
Luckily, no one was hurt, and the plane was not damaged.
The FAA is investigating the landing. And according to the FAA, the plane is a single-engine Cessna registered to William Sharpe of Oakland.
The brothers were coming home from a trip to Sikeston, Missouri. That's where they stopped by the famous Lambert's Cafe for a meal.
