Merry Christmas!

In the newsroom, we've been keeping an eye on the approaching winter storm and listening to a classic Christmas movie in the background for some cheer.

Here's the latest and all we know at the moment on the Blizzard Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories in our viewing area.

MoDOT has advised that you stay off the road during the evening and overnight hours today. They say this advisory will be in effect until their crews are able to treat and plow Southeast Missouri roads.

Many residents in Cape Girardeau were out and about today to fill up their gas tanks and stock up on last-minute supplies. One of our photographers noted the Walgreens in Cape Girardeau was so busy, people had to park in a neighboring restaurant's parking lot.

The Heartland area isn't the only part of the country preparing for or experiencing some extreme weather for the holidays. The National Weather Service has reported multiple tornadoes touching down in Texas, Mississippi and Alabama today.

A 25-year-old man in Texas was killed after a tree fell on his truck. Officials suspect high winds blew the tree down.

Tune in at 6 p.m. for more on the winter storm. We'll have Holly Brantley live along I-55 to tell us what she's seeing. You can send us pictures of the weather in your area to cNews@kfvs12.com. Don't forget to include your name and where you're from!

We hope you all had a great holiday season and please, stay safe!
