Good afternoon. As many of you already know - tragic, tragic news coming out of Connecticut today concerning a deadly elementary school shooting.

Heartland News anchors Jeff Cunningham and Kathy Sweeney put it best: "Today, like many of you, we are parents first - and first tonight - our hearts grieve for the victims and their families."

According to CBS News, the attack, coming less than two weeks before Christmas, was the nation's second-deadliest school shooting, exceeded only by the Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 people dead in 2007. View an interactive map here.

Adam Lanza, 20, has been identified as the gunman responsible for a shooting at a Connecticut elementary school this morning. Police said he killed 27 people, including 20 children and his mother, a teacher.
