(CNN) - Humans aren't the only ones who go through mid-life crises.

Scientists now believe chimpanzees and orangutans do too.

An international study found the apes have the same U-shaped curve of happiness linked to mid-life crisis in humans.

The chimps and orangutans were happiest when young and in old age, but their happiness took a dip in the middle of their lives.

The study appears in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
