RIPLEY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A man was shot by his 79-year-old uncle in Ripley County Tuesday afternoon.
Rodney Laughlin was shot in his left lower stomach after going to his uncle's property on CC Highway to ask if he could deer hunt.
Laughlin was talking to a woman who lives with his uncle when his uncle asked him to stop talking to her and go hunting or leave, according to the Ripley County Sheriff's Office.
Laughlin told deputies he began to leave, thought he heard a scream and the woman came out of the home. He went into his uncle's home and the two began to argue. Laughlin told deputies his uncle grabbed a small black 22 pistol and told him he would shoot him if he didn't leave. When Laughlin reached for his gun, the uncle shot him.
Laughlin drove himself home and his wife took him to the hospital.
The uncle told deputies Laughlin came into his house and began cussing him after asking to go hunting. He said Laughlin raised his hands and said just shoot me, then lunged toward him. The uncle told deputies he didn't mean to shoot Rodney, but the gun went off.
Two pistols were taken back to the sheriff's office for evidence.
The uncle was not arrested.
