COPY-Plane carrying 3 crashes into west Jackson house

A small plane carrying three people crashed into a house near Hawkins Field Airport in west Jackson south of the Jackson Zoo around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The house is located at 225 Marcus L. Butler Drive south of W. Capitol Street.

The Federal Aviation Administration tells The Associated Press that the Piper PA-32 single-engine plane is registered to a company in Flowood

Jackson Municipal Airport Authority officials said in a statement a Piper PA-32 Cherokee 6 single-engine, propeller-driven plane left Hawkins Field for a routine flight operation.

Shortly after take off, the pilot requested permission from air traffic control to return to the airport. The aircraft was unable to return and crashed, according to the airport authority.

The cause of the crash is not known as this time. The Federal Aviation Administration is on the scene and is investigating the crash.

Jackson Fire Department officials have confirmed three people were on the plane. The condition of the three people is not immediately known.

Fire officials say one person was able to escape from the house. A plane wing has possibly been spotted in another backyard.
