CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Fire crews were on the scene of a house fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The fire started around midnight in the house on County Road 645 in Cape Girardeau County.

According to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department, two adults and one child were home when the fire started and got out safely.

According to East County Chief Dwayne Kirchhoff, there's nothing suspicious in connection to the fire. He says it took four departments and 29 fire fighters until after 5 a.m. Wednesday morning to put out the blaze.

The chief says he could see the flames a mile and a half away.

Kirchhoff says the fire started around the fire place area. The family has only lived in the house for about three months.

The chief says the homeowner heard some popping and went to check things out. That's when he saw the glow on the outside.

The homeowner says he was thankful he was still awake so he could get his wife and daughter out of the house, as the daughter sleeps upstairs. The family tried to save some personal belongings, but the home is a total loss.

The family had insurance, and the Red Cross is currently assisting the family.
