CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A man dressed in a skeleton costume is accused of thousands of dollars of property damage in Carbondale.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, thousands of dollars of property damage was done at the Women's Center on 610 South Thompson Street. The incident happened on October 20 at 1:10 a.m.

Investigators say a white male dressed in a full body skeleton costume tampered with eight air conditioning units on the property. Six of the units were damaged requiring immediate repair estimated at around $6000.

Women's Center workers say this is the second time they've been hit by vandals and it really hurts a non-profit aimed at helping others.

"We do not have the $5,000 to get these repaired," said Director Cathy McClanahan. "Hopefully by the time we need them they will be. Every dollar we get goes to direct services, so it goes to help the more than 1000 women and children per year that we serve, and we don't have money in our budget for things like this."

According to police, the suspect appears to be in his late teens or early 20s with short, light colored hair. At the time of the crime he was not wearing a mask or gloves.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Carbondale Police Department at 618-457-3200 Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS (2677).
