CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Although its been open for a few weeks, leaders from Cape Girardeau officially cut the ribbon to open Broadway.

The $4.4 million project took six months to complete.

Broadway from Pacific to Water Streets was renovated, sidewalks were repaved, and a decorative streetscape was installed.

But Cape Mayor Harry Rediger said there's still more work to do.

"We don't want Broadway to ever be finished," Rediger said. "We want it to continue to evolve. We want to have new businesses and improved store fronts."

More trash cans and bike racks will be added to Broadway soon.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
