New Obama ad sparks controversy

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A controversial ad for President Obama is going viral.

The ad has sexual overtones, and it has political pundits squawking just six days before the election.

The new ad is by actress and TV writer Lena Dunham.

Released just last Thursday, it already has more than two million views on YouTube.

In the ad she compares voting for the first time to losing her virginity.

"There was this line in the sand. Before I was a girl, then I was a woman.  I pulled back the curtain and I voted for Barack Obama," Dunham says in the ad.

The ad is approved by the Obama campaign, and that has many conservatives up in arms.

CNN contributor Erick Erickson says the ad has cheapened the presidency.

But Dunham isn't backing away from the ad.

She tweeted, "It tickles me to no end that my Twitter feed was blowing up with conservative hate."
