Cape Middle School students hold mock presidential election

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Teachers at Cape Middle School have hosted mock elections for the past couple of presidential races.

They say it's important for students to get involved in the voting process even though it's just a mock election.

It helps them engage the issues and hopefully they realize the importance of voting so they do it later in life.

And although the voters are only in sixth grade, they stay informed on the issues.

"I voted for Mitt Romney because I think he can get our economy on the right track," said Hayden Smee.

"I voted for Barack Obama because of equality," said Daonte Tate. "He said he will bring the rich and poor together."

"I chose Mitt Romney because he thinks everyone should have a say but he can't take anything away," said Payton Alexander.

And how the kids vote is a fairly accurate indicator of how the vote will turn out in November because most kids vote based off what they hear at home.
