HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) -

The Shawnee National Forest is waiving camping fees at some of it's camping areas in honor of Veteran's Day.

With autumn in full swing, and beautiful colors coupled with cool, crisp temperatures providing a wonderful setting to connect with the great outdoors, the Shawnee National Forest is encouraging visitors to enjoy the Nation's public lands by offering free camping during the Veteran's Day holiday.

Along with families and friends, the Forest is hopeful that veterans, whether in active duty status or retired, will especially take advantage of this opportunity.

The Shawnee National Forest campgrounds included in the fee waiver are as follows:  Garden of the Gods, Pounds Hollow, Camp Cadiz, Pine Hills, and Johnson Creek.

Please note that concessionaire operated campgrounds are not included in the fee waiver.
