FREDERICKTOWN, MO (KFVS) -

A couple of weeks ago on Heartland News we introduced you to a young man from Fredericktown who seemed to beat all the odds his entire life.

Sadly, on Wednesday 23-year-old Joshua Jarrett died unexpectedly at a St. Louis hospital.

At age one Josh became the first person to survive a liver transplant and then just days later, a heart transplant.

Joshua's story made national news, as doctors marveled at his amazing recovery.

At age 22 Josh was diagnosed with lymphoma. He underwent cancer treatments, and was in remission.

Over the weekend, Joshua's dad Darrell Jarrett said Josh got sick and had to be hospitalized.

Darrell Jarrett said his son's heart began to fail.

Wednesday night, Joshua Jarrett passed away.

Two weeks ago during an interview with Crystal Britt at his grandmother's house near Fredericktown, Josh Jarrett said he felt blessed and wanted to inspire others.

Today his family released a statement.

"Throughout Josh's 23 years he inspired us and countless others with his determination and ability to overcome unimaginable odds."

"While today we grieve the loss of Josh, we also want to thank the thousands of people who've prayed and supported him throughout his life," said Josh's family.

Visitation for the public will be from 4:00-8:00p.m. Sunday at Follis and Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown.

The funeral will be 11:00a.m. Monday at Follis & Sons.

Memorials can be made to St. Louis Children's Hospital in Joshua's name.
