BIRMINGHAM, AL (KFVS) -

This week, we enlisted the help of fellow Does it Work reporter Ronda Robinson to weigh in on the latest weight loss product, "Sensa."

The commercial claims if you sprinkle it on your food, over time you will slim down. Tim Holden tried it a year and a half ago when he weighed 237 pounds.

"I was heavy and I was seeing pictures of myself that made me really uncomfortable. Made me feel like I didn't like what I was seeing," said Holden.

He now weighs 170 pounds and credits Sensa with that success. According to the web site, the product triggers a brain reaction that makes you feel full meaning you should eat less and ultimately lose weight.  It also apparently helps disguise much of the scent of food, making you want to eat less.

Nutritionist Beth Kitchin with the University of Alabama said she'd still be cautious with this product.

"There has been no FDA study and no study published in a medical journal.  When we see that, it sends up a red flag in the medical community.  It doesn't mean it doesn't work, it's just that it hasn't been around long enough for us to see the effects. Plus, if a product is so good, then usually companies rush out to have their products be studied and published in these journals to gain credibility.  That has not happened here," she said.

Holden agrees somewhat and said he thinks Sensa got him started in the right direction, but knows it up to him to keep the weight off and eat correctly.

We give Sensa a "C" on this Does it Work test.
